The Wooded Valley

A high contrast landscape capturing a dense thicket [small trees growing together] in the foreground that opens up into a sun-drenched valley. The interplay of light and shadow is particulary prominent here. the skeletal branches of the deciduous trees in the mid-ground are highlighted against the darker, evergreen-covered hills in the distance. The wide tonal range, from the deep blacks of the brilliant whites, gives the scene a rugged, tactile quality characteristic of traditinal large-format photography.
